On Sunday, September 3rd, Courmayeur will showcase the incredibly wide array of its delicacies on the occasion of Lo Matsòn, the lovely farmer market which this year will host ten new local producers, among which even snail farmers. A very special guest will be the Michelin-starred chef Agostino Buillas, who will prepare his Tagliatelle Mont Blanc in front of the public at the Maserati Mountain Lounge. This celebration will be included in a broad program of events dedicated to the local superb cuisine, such as Courmayeur Food Market (on Tuesdays, from July 25 to August 22) and Food&Fun, a 1-day event for kids (on August 1st).
Excellent food and fascinating stories to share: save the date, on Sunday, September 3rd, Courmayeur will host Lo Matsòn, the mountain farmers market whose name, in the local dialect, is associated with the snack that, as local tradition dictates, is usually enjoyed with friends to take a break from the work in the fields. You will find the Aosta Valley producers and their delicacies for the entire day on the street.
This year, Lo Matsòn 2017 has a lot of new entries: approximately ten new producers have joined the food and wine local specialists present at the event, who therefore will be 85 this summer – an impressive demonstration that this event increasingly attracts the interest of the operators. Beside the traditional Aosta Valley food supply chains, such as the ones based on milk, beef, vegetables, grain, and wine, this year you will have the chance to discover, and know more about, snail farming: one of the new Lo Matsòn participants will be Madame Escargot. Located in the small village of Gignod, at almost 1000 meters of altitude, this is the first snail farm using the biological cycle method in the Aosta Valley. Snails are bred for culinary purposes and for the preparation of a natural anti-inflammatory syrup.
At lunch time the air will be filled with a mouth-watering aroma: it will be the Tagliatelle Mont Blanc by Agostino Buillas, an exclusive recipe presented for the very first time last June at the Courmayeur social table at Taste of London. In this live cooking demonstration, the Michelin-starred chef from the Aosta Valley will prepare his exquisite dish, which can be purchased and enjoyed by the visitors attending the event. It’s a gourmet version of tagliatelle al ragù, prepared with the fresh ingredients from Courmayeur and the Aosta Valley, the result of the hard work carried out throughout the whole year by the Lo Matsòn producers. The pasta is made by Pastificio Gabriella of Courmayeur, while the ragù bianco (a ragù sauce with no tomatoes) will be prepared with the Aosta Valley mountain beef from the butcher Péaquin and the fontina from the farm Quinson of Morgex. The delicious dish is elevated by the aromatic tasting notes of the wild herbs picked by Ms. Cristina at the farm La Sauvagette, which produces infusions, herbal teas, and flavored salts.
The event, which will be celebrated by the entire town, will close an amazing program of events dedicated to the excellence of local food, among which Courmayeur Food Market, the market with the zero-miles delicacies from Valdigne that takes place at the Maserati Mountain Lounge on Tuesdays (except for the Ferragosto week, when the market will take place on Monday, August 14) until August 22nd. On August 1st, the entire day will be dedicated to kids with Food&Fun: tons of fun with games, shows, and cooking workshops for young chefs, in partnership with the Lo Tatà association.
